Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal handed over letter of awards to 26 solar project developers for 250 MW solar power projects having joint net investment of Rs 25-30 million. The letters were handed over to the developers after a successful bidding process.
Punjab allocated solar power projects upto 250 MW after completing the bidding process for 300 MW solar power, while Rajasthan had allocated 75 MW, Tamil Nadu did with 200 MW and Andhra Pradesh allocated 200 MW against the bidding process of 100, 1000 and 1000 MW respectively.
Solar power developers who would commence operations in Punjab by next year includes the top solar project developers namely Lanco Solar Energy, Punj Lloyd Infrastructure, Moser Baer Clean Energy, Essel Infra Projects, Asopus Infrastructure (India Bulls), Welspun Solar Punjab , Azure Urja etc.
Punjab government has set a target to generate at least 1000 MW power from renewable energy resources in the next four years, as stated by the deputy CM. Punjab may also look forward to explore the possibility of setting up a mega solar park to promote clean and green energy, which will be a huge turnaround in power generation from solar energy.
