Diesel parity driven solar projects in India
Solar is cheaper than diesel based power
Power generated using diesel based gensets is costs INR 14/kWh - INR 16/kWh. Whereas, solar power (without storage) costs around INR 8/kWh. This means that solar power is just half the cost of diesel power.
Diesel costs are rising everyday. There is already an underrecovery of INR 10/litre. This means that diesel prices, along with cost of generation through diesel can go up by 20% if the subdies are removed. Also, cride oil prices have hit USD 150/barrel. Today they stand at USD 100/barrel. This means that if oil prices hit its previous peaks, there is an upside of another 50%.
Solar costs on the other hand are going down. Investing into solar might not give you energy security. However, if loads are properly managed, solar power can help save on diesel costs through abatement.
We recommend that your diesel gensets always operate at 60-80% so as to keep their generation at efficient levels. Typically, Headway Solar carries out a load survey at your facility to determine how much diesel can be save by going solar in the most optimum fashion.
We will be glad to help you determine the right solar solution to help you bring down power costs at your facility.
